“Email Marketing Statistics- How Much Is Good?”

Hi Everyone

Over the past few months I have been working with new clients on their email marketing campaigns.

I invariably get asked about open rates and read rates and “How much is good?”

i.e. What percentages do other people get?

Well it all depends really.

What I find is over a period of say five email campaigns we can get a fairly strong indicative response rate from a list.  It’s still in the testing stage but roughly we can get to see what ‘numbers’ they are pulling.

By using this information the strategy begins to improve THEIR numbers and not worry about anyone elses.

We can also see if they should continue using email marketing as a strategy.

I am finding by looking at individual client statistics I am able to determine a more exact marketing campaign which could include the use of direct mail, sms or the telephone.

All very useful marketing mediums.

but…

email marketing is still the most cost effective and immediate results known marketing you can do.

So the point of today’s post is don’t hooked on what other people are doing.

Worry about what you are doing and make it better.

PS: Although many businesses close down over Christmas don’t ignore the hugely popular retail-driven January sales.

Don’t stop marketing, people are in the mood to spend during this period.

Personalise Your Email Marketing Subject Lines

Hi Everyone

One of the tips I give in my email marketing is to ‘personalise’ the Subject line of your email.

Most people don’t and it is strange for me to understand why not.

It will increase your open rates.

To make a point one email jumped right off my screen today.

It read, Hi Kurt “Our Christmas Specials Are Waiting For You”.

now…

this on it’s own my not have been enough to get my juices flowing

but…

when it has been the only email I received today to say ‘Hi Kurt” it did.

and more so it came from…

would you believe…

NEWS Ltd.

Hey, if the largest Newspaper Organisation in the World agrees with me
then I am happy with that.

Email Marketing Shouldn’t Be A Nightmare

Hi Everyone

Email Marketing Shouldn’t Be A Nightmare !

To learn email marketing you need to do a bit more then just send an email to a list.

I mean it can be that simple

but…

if you wish real success you need to understand the intricacies of the media.

You need to comprehend:

* subject Lines;
* personalisation;
* content;
* segmentation;
* copywriting clicks;
* measurements and statistics and then

be able to ensure you don’t mess with the Spam Laws.

Gosh, it can be a nightmare if you don’t know what you are doing.

However, this should not stop you from proceeding and helping your clients by delivering timely and useful messages to them.

If you are unsure what to do, simply grab my book to the right of this post -
IT WILL HELP YOU.

“Email Marketers Need Time To Learn”

Hi Everyone

Email Marketing has a strange relationship in the world of advertising.

According to Datran Media 80.4% of corporations in the USA engaged in some form of Email Marketing in 2009.

Yet, I have discovered email marketing is best suited for smaller to medium businesses who have a unique personal relationship with their clients.

You see, email marketing is about letting you customers know what is going on in your business and how your products and services can help them.

It is also about informing your customers on how they can improve, enhance, strengthen their knowledge and skill in the common areas you share.

But…

Email Marketing is a gift which once learnt will serve you well.

Treat it like cooking.

Sure most people can put together some food to survive.

But only artistic, creative and resourceful people can whip us a delicacy.

Only those who have studied, immersed them self and practised can
cook up a storm.

Well, Email Marketing is very similar.

Learn, study and apply skills and you too can be at the forefront of this exciting marketing medium.

But if you don’t learn – you will join the list of poor cooks and marketers who need to eat out each night.

“This Is Dumb !”

Hi Everyone

I have found companies and organisations  segment their lists, dare I say it, TOO much.

They heavily dissect their databases into categories and try to target very finely who their messages are sent to.

Email Marketing IS NOT a media which requires infinite segments.

It is a media which is “Interruptive” in the life of the recipient

therefore…

your RELATIONSHIP with your list

and…

the way you interrupt them…

with your subject line,  email header and copywriting will dictate your success.

Because…

Email Marketing serves only one of TWO purposes:

1. To build a relationship

or…

2. To make a sale.

Too many email marketers concentrate on always trying to make a sale.

This is DUMB.

The art of selling never changes, regardless of the media used or the sales person.

In sales – PEOPLE BUY FROM FRIENDS.

If are continually sending out SALES emails to your list you will damage your relationship with the recipient and maybe loose their friendship.

Think before you send your marketing email -

and answer this question…

‘Am I being DUMB?”

“Only Two Reasons To Send Marketing Emails”

Hi Everyone

All marketing emails should only serve one of two purposes.

  1. to build a relationship with your list;             or
  2. to make a sale.

You must be very clear in your mind what the purpose of the email is to be before you send it.

For instance:

If you are sending emails to your list for the first time then it will necessary to build your relationship with them first.

If you have a strong relationship with your people and have a new product or service then sending a sale email would be accepted.

The right mixture is crucial for email marketing success.
