Email Marketing Is Not Electronic Direct Mail

Hi Everyone

How to write as an email marketer takes a special skill which can be learned.

The primary function of an email marketer is to get people to click onto a link.

Loren McDonald , Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Media Insider wrote

“People writing for email must understand the ins and outs of subject lines, content and human filters, the impact of preview panes and blocked images and the need for scannable copy.”

Oh how so important is this.

You see:

Email marketing is not electronic direct mail.

Too many people I teach believe they need to be able to write great copy.

Whilst this is important the most crucial aspect is about building a relationship with your list and this can be achieved very quickly if you can move them to a website or a video etc.

The purpose of email marketing is to get them to ‘click’ or move onto the next step.

Getting Started To Use Email Marketing In Your Business

Hi Everyone

I have been contacted recently by businesses asking how to increase their sales using email marketing.

Whilst there is no magic pill there is a precise defined system which you should use and adopt to gain maximum benefit.

First of all you must start with a List. This list can be collected from existing customers, files, contacts or you could start right away building your list today.

Let me explain.

A local Fish and Chip Shop owner said to me the other day, “This email stuff you do, it couldn’t possibly work for us!”

“Why not?” I enquired. “Seems to me you are in a perfect business for it to be used. Plenty of daily/weekly customers enter your shop.”

“But how could we use email to get to them, we only know their first names?” She stated.

Kurt’s Sidenote: Ah, this is where the fun part starts.

“Why not commence collecting their email addresses and mobile phone numbers today. It’s only a matter of creating a reason why they would give you theirs.

It could be a weekly chook competition, a free dim sim, an extra scoop of chips and presto your list is being built.”

I then asked, “How many customers do you get a week?”

The owner replied, “About 400.”

“400 ???

and…

you don’t have their contact details?”

“Boy, am I glad you questioned me about email marketing.  Your business is right for email marketing.

It’s only about having email marketing software and email marketing strategies.”

Hey, stay tuned, I’ll reveal what the next steps for the fish and chip owner is in my next email.

These very strategies will work in your business too.

Bruce Bird – London

“Great job, Kurt.

I was aware of some of these tips – but usually applied them intermittently and often in haste.

Your ’7 Killer Tips To Get Your Emails Read’ makes it crystal clear just how important a methodical and consistent approach is in all your emails. And I love the examples you give from well known marketing figures demonstrating just how effective your lessons really are.

As always, the best lessons come from watching what the masters do.

I’ll be keeping your e-book handy for ready reference every time I go near that ‘Send’ button in future.

My e-book, “7 Killer Tips To Get Your Emails Read” has been downloaded across Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, Europe and South America.

You can get it sent direct to your inbox by leaving your details on the right of this page.

Here’s what Charlie B from Singapore said after reading the book:

“I have been doing a lot of things wrong in my email campaigns. First off, no-one know who I am and my return address was an attempt to hide from the recipients of my email It is no wonder the only response I was getting to my email campaigns was DELETE ME PLEASE. I was also using cutesey subject lines to con the recipients into opening the emails I sent them. I didn’t have an opening headline to entice the reader to continue on into the email.
I also was using the tired old Click here call to action and no PPPPPSs either. I can get better responses to my new email campaigns since reading the 7 Killer Tips To Get Your Emails Read.”

“Do You Know Who Dr Randy Pausch Is?”

Hi Everyone

This is another email in my series “Do You Know Who … Is?”

“Do You Know Who Dr Randy Pausch Is?”
(I thank Jennie Armato for sending this one to me –
http://www.jenniearmato.com/blog)

Randy Pausch was a tenured professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

In September 2007, Randy Pausch delivered his “Last Lecture” titled
“Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.”

You see, Randy knew he was dying.

and…

as a legacy to his children offered these thoughts, these inspirational
messages about life and living.

If you are like me, Randy’s speech will move you.

He talks about his “Childhood Dreams” and chasing them.

There’s the story about his footy coach riding him hard and blasting him.

An assistant coach said to Randy,
“Coach Graham rode you pretty hard today didn’t he.”
“Yeah !” replied Randy.
“That’s a good thing.  When you are screwing up and nobody is saying anything
to you anymore it means they gave up.”

“When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody is telling you anything
to you anymore; that’s a bad, bad place to be.”

“Your critics are the ones telling you they still love you and care.”

Randy uses analogies of brickwalls.

Brickwalls let us show our dedication.

They are there to separate us from the people who don’t really want
to achieve their childhood dreams.

“Don’t bail; the best gold is at the end of the bottom of barrels of crap.”

muses Randy.

“Get a feedback loop; and listen to it.  The hard part is the listening.”

he continues

“Anybody can get chewed out.  The rare person, says, “Oh My God”,
you are right.”

“When people give you feedback, cherish it and use it.”

In closing, Randy Pausch leaves us with these parting words:

  • Show gratitude;
  • Don’t complain – just work harder;
  • Be good at something – it makes you valuable;
  • Work Hard;
  • Find the best in everybody, no matter how long it takes;
  • Be prepared.  Luck is where preparation meets oppor.tunity; and
  • If you lead your life the right way, Karma will take place;
    your dreams will come to you.

No doubt the world is at a loss to lose a person like Randy Pausch.

He is survived by the people he has touched and educated.

Spen.d 75 minutes of your life to find out a little about him.

I am so glad I did.
