Email Marketing: “Not Everyone Opened My Email, Why?”

Hi,

I received a question from a person using email marketing the other day
which has been intriguing me ever since.

They asked, “Not Everyone Opened My Email, Why?”  ”Can you help?”

The short answer was, “Sure, I can let you know why.”  ”But to get to the real
issue we will need to drill deeper.”

We conversed and I had them on their way in quick time.

But then I thought why not share my research which I have found useful, with you.
Then you can  gauge your email marketing effectiveness.

I have learnt a lot over the 4 years I have been email marketing and I’d like to
save you some time to get there quicker and help you get terrific results.

So here you go.  

Seven more tips to get your emails propelling through cyberspace like a
dolphin chasing a school of herring.

My Seven Tips Are:

1. Unless you are sending to one person you will probably never  experience
100% open rates. (And even sending to one may not get 100%…) So don’t get
hooked too much with open rates.  But if you want a number then…
No I am not going to do it – it doesn’t really matter.

2.  Pay more attention your recipients are actioning the way you wish them to.

3. Email Marketing is very much like many advertising streams.  That is, it is
always about the right message to the right person at the right time.
Timing is critical in marketing and advertising.

i.e. What I mean about timing is:

If you just walked out of restaurant having gorged on a 10 course meal,
no matter how great a new meal deal presented to you was, if it had to be taken
within the next 30 minutes, you would not be in a position to oblige.
(Mind you my Golden Retriever pooch would give it a massive go.)

4. Have a series of emails to back up your first email.  I use a ‘Step Diagram’
which enables me to program a series of emails rather than one email blast.

5. Have a strategy to send people another email who have clicked on a
link or visited a website link you inserted.

6. Have a strategy to send people an email who haven’t opened the first one.

Be careful, DO NOT send the same email again.  NO NO !!  The reason being
is many people read emails in the ‘preview frames’ of their email program.
You do not wish to bore them with the same email.  The tactic to send an
email to ’non-opens’ is  sound.  Just change the message around that’s all.

7. The strategies and tactics I mentioned in tips 4,5 & 6 are really all about
segmentation.  Segmentation is crucial and critical aspect of email marketing
which cannot be ignored.  Don’t send all messages to all people.  It just doesn’t
work.

Email Marketing: 10 Top Tips For Email Success Are…

give you an article on email marketing you can contemplate over wherever
you are relaxing.

You could say it’s your long-weekend homework but gosh

So here you go, read and digest these ten tips for maximum

1. Write a Subject Line which will make your intended audience click.
I have spoken about email subject lines in the past.  It’s so crucial to
learn how to write them and how to use them. If you need more help

2. Write your important items at the top of your email so those people
who read their emails in the ‘preview frame’ get to read your best part of
the message quickly.

Also many people read emails via their phones.
Make it easy for them too.

3. Check out your formatting.  Leave white space. Keep line length to
around 60 characters.  People would rather scroll down than across.

4. Write your emails as if you are talking to one person.  Make it a
real conversation.

5. Focus on content they would like to receive.  It’s about helping them.

6. See if you can offer something but remember it’s not always about
sales.  You need to be able to add value to people’s lives.

7. Keep your image sizing down to a minimum.  Try to get you images
around 72 dpi and keep them small in size.  This way they will not clog
up your recipients inbox.

8. Make sure you know and understand what you can do and cannot do
by law.  In Australia we use the Spam Act 2003 in the USA they use the
Can Spam Act.

9. Use a ‘PS’ at the end of the email.  Two ‘PS’s’ work even better.

10. Try placing your picture at the end of the email.
Remember: ”People Buy From Friends”

I received an email this morning and must admit they got me.

Email Marketing: Has Kaboodle Changed Or Simply Testing?

Hi Everyone

For those who follow me will know I am more of a fan of email marketing by copywriting.  That is to get people to act by the words which are written.

Other examples of email marketing is what I describe ‘email brochures’.  That is; highly visible and selected images are included in an email to entice the reader to click a link to further check out a product.

This second type of email is used primarily by retail type stores.

One particular on-line store I follow is Kaboodle.  I receive their newsletter in my inbox.

What I have recently discovered was Kaboodle changed their email template design.

It used to be 24 pictures in the templates.  Refer my previous post.

Today I received their marketing email with only 5 pictures.

Email Marketing: Your 5 Point Email Marketing Plan

Five Point Email Marketing Plan To Help You Bring In
The Extra Cash You Want

1.  Set a Goal or End Result you are looking to achieve in a campaign.

It’s crucial to know what you are setting out to achieve.
Know why you are sending out your emails and make sure
every message is aligned to this end goal.

2.  Plan and Create steps along the way to achieve the Goal.

I use a Step Diagram for myself and my clients.  This is a
systematic tool I have created which chronologically steps each
email message in the campaign with all emails focussed on
achieving Point 1.

3.  Segment your email lists.

I recommend this as a crucial element in email marketing.  I have
one client who has established 44 separate and different email lists.
They can now send targeted messages direct to each list if they desire.

4.  Create Headlines that scream out to your customers – “Open Me”.

The success and end result of your email campaign will be
dependant whether the email is opened in the first place.

Learn, gather, test different headlines which will compel your recipients to
open and see what you have in store for them.

5.  Be consistent and persistent.

Email marketing is about sending relevant messages to your lists.
Not everyone will want every message you send.  Don’t be put off by
a few people who may unsubscribe.  They probably were never going to
seek your help assistance anyway.

Follow these five points and watch your lists grow.

Email Marketing: 5 Birthday Subject Lines To Use

Hi Everyone

One of the best email marketing campaigns which will delight your customers and bring cash into your business is the “Birthday Campaign.”

Birthday campaigns are a sure fire winner.

These can be set in advance using your email sending provider and programmed automatically.

Be very sincere with your email marketing gifts too.  Don’t expect people to jump at a poor offering.

If you are going to give a gift on someone’s birthday give them a meaningful gift.

My clients who have dining rooms, restaurants etc. are encouraged to give away a free meal in the week surrounding a client’s birthday.

Not many people dine alone on their birthday so don’t be afraid to give away a free meal and maybe a drink.

If they do dine alone then surely the custom they give you during the year would be sufficient to allow them this special gift.

To help attract them into your business here are  five birthday subject lines which are known to be email marketing success stories.

Email Marketing: Still A Most Valid Medium

Hi Everyone

Email Marketing is alive and well.

For business purpose email is a channel to do business or communicate with clients as they sit at their desks or are mobile with Smart Phones etc..

With the advent of Social Media sites what this means to the email marketer is nothing really changes.

Email Marketing is about the

1. The List

2. The Relationship with the List and

3. The Offer.

Whether people receive their emails via a PC or a hand help device it will still come through email – personally and direct to a person.

Nobody really knows but…

I can’t see businesses giving up email in favour of allowing social networking sites into the lives of their staff.

In fact many organisations have strict rules against it because of the distraction it can create.

So for me Email Marketing will live on and be a necessary arrow in the armoury of business marketing.
