Email Marketing: Subject Lines and Pre-Headers

Subject Lines and Email Pre-Headers

If you wish to be recognised by your email recipients make sure you
include your name, brand or company in the subject line.

People open up emails from those they trust and respect.

Research tells us emails which clearly reveal the name of the sender
have more open rates than those which do not.

Another tip is to use a email content subject line or what is commonly known as an email pre-header.

The pre-header enables recipients who have opened the email to make a
quick and easy decision if they wish to read further.

The email pre-header could contain the email subject line again or it
could contain a link to a website you wish your recipients to be taken to.

The link is very useful for people who read their emails via Smartphones.

Most email programs these days allow the recipient to read emails in a preview frame.  This means a person doesn’t need to click on your email to open it.  They can simply preview the email to see if they wish to view.

With this in mind it is essential to get to the point about your email.

A way this can be done if you would like to tell a story first is to create
a curiosity line like:

“I have a special Mother’s day offer for you for being my client…but first”

Another tip if you wish to include images in your email is to name them so
if they are blocked people can still read the name and know what should have appeared there.

Don’t label your images as numbers or symbols as these will
mean nothing to your recipients.

Email marketing is the most cost effective and and quickest means to get your message out to your customers.

But…

It requires consistency and persistency.

Don’t give up otherwise everything you did before was wasted.

Email Marketing: Are You Ready For Mother’s Day?

Hi Everyone

“Are You Prepared For Mother’s Day?”

Gosh, it’s probably the furthest thing from your mind, with
Easter coming up in a few weeks time.

But..

if you don’t start thinking about Mother’s Day now you
may miss out on this very important day in sales.

You see, although retail spending has plummeted, I bet there will
be an abundant amount of money gleefully taken out wallets and
directed to keeping a very important person happy.

Don’t despair if you have not thought about Mother’s Day yet.

I am here to help.

Use these dates to program your marketing.

Firstly, you need to plan your marketing to finish on Mother’s Day.

In Australia, Mother’s Day  falls on the second Sunday in May (8th May)
Let’s call this your “Email Marketing Campaign Finish Day.”

then…

You need to work backwards, weekly, and decide how many emails
you may wish to send before the Campaign Finish Day.

I like to commit to at least a minimum of a four – five email campaign.

For example…

If your Campaign Finish Day is the 8th of May (Mother’s Day), then you
have the week’s commencing Monday 2nd May, 25th April, 18th April and
the 11th April to send emails.

If you wish a five email campaign, use the Friday before Mothers Day
as a final reminder.

Confusing?  Let me help.

If you wish to send one email per week the schedule would look like:

* Email One – send week commencing – 11th April;
* Email Two – send week commencing – 18th April;
* Email Three – send week commencing – 25th May;
* Email Four – send week commencing – 2nd May.
* Email Five – send the Friday before Mother’s Day – 6th May.

All of these emails are to be centred around the theme, Mother’s Day.

So Kurt, what have you to offer your clients for

Email Marketing – It’s Biggest Asset Is Also It’s Biggest Enemy

Email Marketing’s biggest asset is also it’s biggest enemy.

Let me explain…

It’s very affordable and cost effective to email.   Most people have an email address so it becomes very easy for anyone to send an email.

And this is where the problem could lye for legitimate email marketers.        i.e. Getting their message recognised through all the clutter in a person’s in-box.

Most businesses or people do not understand that email marketing is a science which takes testing, testing and more testing to discover what works best.

There are many things which could be tested too.

Like…

The subject lines, the headers in an email.  Images are also useful additions to an email.

Then you need to consider if you should send a short email or a long email and never discount the method of sending emails.

By this I mean emails should be sent in both HTML and Text versions. Allow the recipient to decide which format they would like to view them in.

With all emails you should also have sound content which is related to the reader and ensure you include a call to action.  Never let the reader wondering what they should do next.

The final part of any email marketing campaign should include your ‘signature’ including links and make sure you also include at least two PS’s.

Email Marketing is affordable and this allows most people to undertake it.

But…

Learn the tips, learn the ways, methods to ensure you get your messages read and become a sought after email marketer to your clients.

Yes, the biggest asset is its affordability so this makes it also  its biggest enemy.

Email Marketing: How To Get Your Emails Noticed.

Hi Everyone

This week I talk about getting your emails noticed.

The first part of an email a recipient reads is the ‘From Line”.

You have a few choices what to use here, including:

* Your company name: (i.e. Johansen International);

* Your name: (i.e. Kurt Johansen);

* The position name of someone in your business: (i.e. CEO – Johansen International);

* The email loyalty program name: (VIP Club – Johansen International); OR

* your name and a description of your services: (i.e. Kurt Johansen – Email Mastery).

The choice should be based on what you think most recipients are likely to recognize.

Your first and last name is quite a useful relationship building technique but it must be recognisable to your recipients.

If you are sending to a list of people who know you and are expecting your emails then you may use your names successfully. i.e Kurt Johansen.

This particular ‘FROM’ technique works especially well for small businesses who have a personal relationship with their clients.

But…

If you are sending to a list as an employee or from a business where the business name is primarily known then it may be wise to use the business name. i.e. Johansen International.

Whatever you choose be consistent.  If you change, it may confuse your recipients which could lead to ‘unsubscribes’.

Please DO NOT use “sales@abccompany”, or “admin@abccompany” etc. as these will not help build a relationship with your lists.

Also keep in mind many emails are now read on mobile phones. Therefore it also pays to get your ‘FROM’ line identified early. i.e “Kurt Johansen – Email Mastery” rather than “Email Mastery – Kurt Johansen”;

An often overlooked element of the FROM line is a person’s email address. Try to avoid using ‘Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail addresses if you email market. Use your email address. i.e kurt@johanseninternational.com.au

Your real address will render a more personal touch when it comes to email marketing.  If you do not wish people to reply to the FROM email address (as it is your personal email address) this can be organised.

Email Marketing programs allow you to program where the return/reply email should be directed to.
