My Rather Extravagant 100% Free Email Tips

Some ideas in this post may relate to you; some may not.

You may already know a few – yet the most common comment I hear about them is, “I knew that, and we should be doing it, but we’re not.”

It is very easy to overlook even the most obvious things, isn’t it?  I do it all the time.

The important thing is everything I tell you about email marketing is based on experience, not theory.

Peter Drucker, a leading management thinker coined a phrase; “If you can’t measure it you can’t improve it.”

And in the on-line world of email marketing this is so true.

By testing and measuring all parts of your emails you get a handle on what turns your customers on.

So I am going to give you 3 simple, easy and quick ways to improve your emails.

Measure them.

Put them to the test for yourself.

Don’t just rely on what I say.

The only way you will ever really know is to do it !

Email Tip One:

“Be A Friend To Your Recipient”

Get out of your “Business World” and write your messages as if they are coming from a person.

Nobody wants a relationship with a business.

Think about it: you probably pay the most attention to emails from friends, family, and colleagues, people with whom you have genuine, trusted relationships.

So write your emails as if it was coming from a friend.

Write it as if you are sending to ONE friend.

What I mean is DO NOT say things like:

“Hi, everyone…”

“Hi (First Name)…”  or simply…

just “Hi…”

After all that is the way you send emails to friends isn’t it?

Email Tip Two:

“Consistency Leads to Trust”

One way to build trust with your email marketing is to be consistent.

Send regular emails in your business but written in a friendly, personal way.

What does regular mean?

It means don’t just send emails intermittently when you have something to sell.

Also offer help, advice which will keep you in the “front of mind” of your customers.

Don’t be afraid to sell in your emails though.

If you are consistent your customers know you will offer some sort of deal.

Being consistent also means formatting your emails in a certain style.

Your emails should be recognisable when you send them.  The recipient will decide to read them and act if they wish.

The Occasional Surprise is OK.

Aiming to be consistent does not mean you can’t send the occasional one-off different type of email.

You might have a strategic reason to send a unique, valuable message on a different day and time, or in a different format than usual.

Your recipients are likely to accept the inconsistency, because they TRUST you.

Email Tip Three:

“If You Want Your Emails Read Then Clean Your Lists”

Deliverability of your emails is the most important aspect of email marketing.

What’s the point of going to all the trouble of creating a campaign if your emails do not get delivered.

Your email content is very important in all emails but…

The big guys, such as Gmail, Hotmail, and Outlook, have made it clear that they analyse which emails their customers open and click through to gauge whether emails from a particular sender are spam.

If your emails are not being opened and read then they are likely to be sent to the Spam Folder.

But how do you know if this happening?  How do you find out what your statistics are.

You have to check your stats.  You have to measure.

“If you can’t measure it you can’t improve it.”

I keep track of three major statistics for my clients and myself.

  1. Open rates;
  2. Read Rates;
  3. Clickthrough Rates.

But really the MOST IMPORTANT statistic of all.

And if you follow these three simple and easy to use Email Tips:

  • “Be A Friend To Your Recipient”
  • “Consistency Leads to Trust”
  • “If You Want Your Emails Read Then Clean Your Lists”

You will find your email conversion will soar.
