Australia Post Or Email ? – Part 2

With the price of stamps and the delay in delivery time announced by Australia Post recently it makes sense to move your customer database over to online.

Why?

Because…

You can send emails to them much more cost effective than the old snail mail.

And…

You can send multiple messages, multiple times closer together.

However, it isn’t about totally disregarding the postal system.

On special occasions or promotions it may pay to send a brochure, flyer, or postcard.
Especially as many people may abandon Australia Post even more.

By moving your customer database online though, you are creating a marketing channel which is quick, easy and very cost effective.

In fact it could cost you little to nothing once you have mastered the techniques of email marketing.

And it will increase sales.

So how do you go about getting your customers to hand over their email address?

Try any one or a combination of these two methods..

  • Mail out to existing customers and offer them a free gift or discount for their email address and mobile phone number;

I have used this successfully in the past when I owned a retail store.  I would include a $50 discount voucher to be used within 30 days when they registered on-line or by return mail with their email and mobile.

  • Have a form available for customers in store.  You could offer an electronic sign-up via a tablet and website or a printed registration form.

I have used this successfully by having a printed form available in a desk drawer and asked ‘selected’ people if they would like to join an exclusive members’ club free of charge.

Then…

Within 48 hours I would contact them via mail and include a $50 discount voucher to be used within 30 days.

Any one of these methods work but is essential to capture both email and mobile numbers as you may venture into SMS marketing as well.
