They Do Have The Capacity To…

It’s always a treat to receive an email from an old friend.

You know the type…

One which tells you about what they are doing.

The funny thing is at times the email will contain details you may not wish to hear.

Let me explain…

I recently received an email and photo attachments from a friend I see now maybe once a year.

At first it was great to see him inside my inbox.

Then I started to unravel his message only to be confused why he was sending ‘all this’ to me.

Why was I receiving the email ?

I continued to read and click a few a photos and then I did what most people would do.

I clicked out and deleted the email.

There were better things for me to do at the time.

But here is the kicker…

He is still a friend and although I wasn’t in the right frame of mind nor interested in that email…

I didn’t…

Ask him to stop sending emails.

You see next time I may be interested in what he may say.

And so it is with your customers.

Not every person will read nor be interested in your emails.

Not every person will have the time nor inclination to read your messages.

But they do have the capacity to unsubscribe from your lists.

It will be their decision.

So what is the point I am making here?

Well…

I had a customer tell me they stopped emailing and contacting their customers because they didn’t think people were interested in what they have to say.

My answer was, “You are right.  Not everyone will be interested every time.  But that is no reason to stop sending out messages.”

“Let them tell you when enough is enough.”

“Besides, if you stop being in the front-of-their-mind then you allow your competitors a foot-in-their-door.”

Does all this make sense to you ?

Marketing is crucial for any business to succeed.

As Mark Twain wrote:

“The spider looks for a merchant who does not advertise so he can spin a web across his door and lead a life of undisturbed peace.”

To sit back and wait for the phone to ring is dumb business.

Be proactive and contact your customers is Smart business.

And emailing is the most affordable means of marketing a business can do.
