This Post Will Upset One Of My Readers
but it’s a story I see over and over again and it’s got to be told !

Flashback 15 months ago.

Person One: “Kurt, I wish to use you for email marketing but I
don’t think I’m ready.”

My response: “That’s OK, I will still be here when you are.”

I added: “By the way; did you know I had to double my fees a few months ago
so I could concentrate on my active clients and not get bogged down
with unproductive people?”

Person One: “Damn you Kurt, I’ll be ready in a couple of months.”

My response: “Ok then, I’ll offer this. Sign up now, at last year’s fees
and save 50% but you have to do it today.”

End Result: Credit Card payment received on the spot.

Fast Forward two months ago:
Person Two: “Kurt We’ve been thinking about starting email marketing for awhile. Can you pop around and take us through it.”

My response: “Of course I can – happy to help out.”

End Result: After spending several hours with the business and offering
my services they decided to attempt email marketing themself.

That’s OK, I was happy to show them what to do etc. and introduce them to
the SmartEmail [] sending program.
This is the email program I use and recommend.

Person Two: Fast Forward One Month ago.
“Kurt, Can you help?” “We received this…”

“This email is to advise you that the Australian Communications and
Media Authority (the ACMA) has received a report regarding an email
that appears to relate to your business, that the recipient has perceived
as being spam.”

End Result: Despite their sound business intentions somebody didn’t appreciate their email.

OK, back to Person One.

Person One: Fast Forward This week – 15 months after paying me my yearly
fee and still not being quite ready, his First email campaign was sent. Yes the first email was sent just now.

End Result: His email went to 1400 active email addresses on his list. His Open Rate was staggering – the highest I have seen from a List this size; but more impressive was his read rate: a remarkable 91.4%.

His Clickthrough Rates were sensational too.

But again more impressive were the personal replies he received from his List. It is going to take him more than a week to respond to everyone.

His statistics (and yes I do look at statistics for all my clients) were simply into the stratosphere.

Why was this so? Why was there such a resounding difference between results of Person One and Two. Why is Person One now under the microscope of the
Australian Communications and Media Authority?


Email Marketing is about:
1. The List;
2. The Relationship with your list; and
3. The Offer you are making.

To make Email Marketing work you need to have all three in congruence.
It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece but it must follow a set of tried and
proven guidelines.

And I have spent years refining and honing these guidelines to dis.cover what
