So Which Headline Do You Use ?

A client approached me to write a sales letter for a training program they wish to launch in March.

It then came down to write the Headlines and Subject lines of not only the letter but to a series of emails, blog articles, Facebook posts and Twitter feeds.

The idea is the more media you use the more chances you create to direct people to buy.

Just makes sense doesn’t it.

When you wish to draw people in there is one main cash attracting magnet to consider.

  “Which Headline will work ?”

Which headline is going to make them stop and read.

Here you need to think like a newspaper sub-editor. (They’re the person who writes the headline to the journalists’ stories.)

You need to ask yourself…

“What headline will work best for this project ?”

Now at this point I had to admit to the client I didn’t know which headline would work.

That is right.  I really didn’t know which headline would work best.

Not yet anyway.

You see…

I don’t know the client’s list, the list demographics or makeup.

I don’t know yet what will make people push the button or what I need to do to push their buttons in the headline.

And this is the honest TRUTH.

But I do know this…

Nobody will know until we TEST.

Yes, TEST.

You have to test several headlines & subject lines to see what sparks the interest of people; to see which headline works best.

But I need you to be careful here because…

I am not saying any ol’ headline will work.

No Siree…

Writing headlines and subject lines takes immense skill and knowledge and…

It doesn’t come overnight.

There are specific ways to write the headlines and subject lines.

There are many different types of headlines to consider – all unique yet rewarding.

The Question Headline:

The How To Headline:

  • How New Leaders Will Help Grow Your Business In Only 6 Months Starting From Scratch;

The News Headline:

  • The Complete Guide To Create Leaders In Your Business;

The Reasons Why Headline:

  • 7 Reasons Why You Should Create Leaders In Your Business;

The Testimonial Headline:

  • Wife Tells – How Creating New Leaders In Our Business Saved Us From Bankruptcy.

So which headline do you use?

To answer this question let’s look at a series of steps.

Step 1:  Write as many headlines you can.  Write 20, 30, 50, 80, 100.

Step 2: Be critical.  Eliminate those you don’t like.

Step 3: Get an opinion from somebody in your target market.

Step 4: Try to avoid getting advice from family and friends.  They generally
would not buy from you so their opinion is invalid.

Step 5:  Test and test and test with a small sample and see what works best.

And did you know that your autoresponder should be able to do the testing for you?

Did you know a decent autoresponder will have the ability to split test and give you results on which one worked?
