But Hey… That’s What Mates Do Don’t They ?

Sunshine, busy (but not too busy), and a sense of being alive.

With all the commotion about to hit them, with the G20 this weekend, it seems my foray there last week was timely.

I met up with some ol’ buddies, met plenty of new ones and looked for new opportunities to help people.

After a few days recuperating in Adelaide I can now reflect on lessons learned.

You can pinch these and use these …as they should resonate with you.

Lesson #1

“You need to stay in touch with old friends and like-minded people.”

In today’s hustle and bustle it is so easy to be caught up in your own world.

You understand don’t you.

You are busy trying to survive and make ends meet that you don’t have time to socialise and catch up with former acquaintances for a yarn.

People who have helped you in past. People who have listened to you in the past. People who have – well – just been there.

I was lucky to catch up with many people whom form part of this old friendship.

There was Lindy who picked me up from the air-port.  We had lunch in Hamilton and we gas-bagged for a couple of hours.

There was Pete Godfrey and Chen Tay whom I am forever grateful to be able to hang out with.

There was Bret Thompson and Lynika Cruz who put on a fabulous seminar and there were many, many good times reflected and embellished ‘porkies’ told.

But hey that’s what mates do don’t they.

Lesson #2

“You need to meet new people and expand your influence.”

Gosh it is great to be able to keep the same circle of friends forever and never allow anyone new into your world but how do you expect to survive in business that way?

You need to hang on to customers you have, yet you also need to gather more.

That means you need to be accessible and approachable and care about helping people.

You need to allow people to easily and without fear talk to you.

Gulp…. I hear you say.

If you stay within the walls of your business and wait for someone to walk in or the phone to ring then simply…

Can I say…

It’s dumb !

Get out, get about and start corresponding with people. (If you don’t like face-to-face stuff use email marketing).

But do it.

Lesson #3

You need to look for your next growth strategy.

It is never OK doing the same ol’ same ol’.

Don’t kid yourself if you think it is.

Even if you have retired and go fishing everyday, you will always be on the search for another way to hook the bait, to cast the line, to add a sinker.

Because a person without challenges soon perishes.

So what are you going to do.

Which lesson will you start right away.
